Dwarsnoard: 1900
This postcard depicts theWerenfridus church (left) and the Gertrudis Church (right).
1907

Memorial arch in honour of Workum’s 1000th birthday on the 10th of July 1907 outside de Zwaan (the Swan) cafe at Dwarsnoard 75.
This particular arch was erect for the visit of H.R.H. Frederika Sophia Wilhelmina (wife of Willem V 1748-1806) and her three children Frederika Louise, Willem Frederik (later King Willem I) and Willem George to Workum, 17 September 1785. Willem V himself was unfortunately in Breda that day
1909

The house furthest left in this picture (Dwarsnoard 44) is a seventeenth century schoudergevel (shoulder gable). The bridge that connected the two sides of the street in this picture was extremely narrow, but had the redeeming feature of being a swing bridge. The vegetable and potato dealer Pieter Veldman (who lived at Dwarsnoard 2) would have utilised this swing feature many times as he brought his wares up the canal.

Ships entered Workum along the Dwarsnoard canal. The house on the left of this picture is Dwarsnoard 58.
Workum 1914
Picture looking down the street ‘het Schil’ with the Reformed Church in the background.
1918

This one shows the street ‘it Sud’.

The steam boat in this picture of the Trekvaart canal is "De Stad Workum"(The City Workum), captained by Klaas Groenhof, which provided a daily service between Workum and Sneek. The two poles on the left side of the picture formed part of the bridge over the IJskeboervaart, a canal connecting the Ferwoude with the Trekvaart. This bridge, which no longer exists, was referred to by the locals at the time as the Wikje Bridge, after the women who operated it.
The long bridge in the background has also disappeared over time. Old football photos:
